Greetings all,

My boyfriend recently acquired a young Map Turtle, recently hatched I would surmise, as it fits on a quarter.

In any event, I'm trying to help find him information on how to care for 1.) the species as a whole and 2.) such a small/young individual. And I'm not having much luck, as the information I'm coming across is very vague and non-descriptive. And personally, I can only offer him the information I know about turtles from when I used to keep them, but those were different species (Red-Eared Sliders) that may or may not have a lot of overlapping care requirements.

So, I was wondering if anyone on here had an information on this species or knew of any websites with information that they could share?

Thanks!

I've taken care of a few little maps. Mine would take floating pellets almost immediately. They also like bloodworms and scuds.

I've found that hatchling maps are very sensitive, especially compared to sliders or snappers. Be sure to keep the water pristine.

Any particular floating pellet, or did it not matter?

And good to know, thanks!

Yeah, they take Reptomin. They seem to have a special preference for orange-colored pellets such as ReptoTreat Suprema and TetraCichlid Jumbo Sticks (broken into bite-sized pieces) but will also eat Wardley's reptile sticks and koi pellets; they're really not very picky.
