Hi all, i've recently built an above tank basking platform for my turtle, its ramp is made of maple plywood. Is maple plywood safe for the fish and turtle in my tank?

There is very little maple in maple plywood. The maple is just a thin veneer on top of who knows what for the middle plys. I would seal the plywood very well (this will also keep it from De-laminating). Maybe coat it with fiberglass?

I agree the ply will not last very long in a wet environment regardless of the veneer. A better choice would be a marine plastic such as starboard or an expanded PVC board which is what I use for my turtles. As for it being safe I really don't for sure but I wouldn't use it with all the glues and chemicals they use to process the wood for sheeting. Good luck.

Good point. Plastic (UHMW) cutting boards are very cheap, easy to work with and will last forever in water. You can pick up pretty decent sized ones from Harbor Freight for a couple bucks on sale. I guess it depends on how picky you are about the looks?
