Maple tree in fish tank

BTW, I have a weird maple species with metallic red bark I'm going to try something like this with. I hope they do okay without ferts.
 
Whoa! I love it! I've always wanted to try bonsai and now I will with my mangroves.

Please get some pics of your weird maple species, I'd love to see it!
 
I only have the seeds. I think the tree may have been a paperbark maple. The specimen that I collected seeds from, though, looked a lot shinier than the usual. Perhaps it was a cross between paperbark and a metallic type. It looked like a madrona with maple leaves for the most part.

Trying to sprout some of the seeds, nothing yet.
 
I did some reading. Apparently it takes years to sprout maple seeds. So I got a seedling from my mother-in-law instead. It's not paperbark, it's the standard purple decorative maple. I'm letting it grow a bit outside before trying to waterlog it and bring it in.
