Do most lfs carry this or am I out on a wild goose chase?

what are the chances petco or petsmart have it?

no hurry, just trying to get rid of some cyanobacteria.

It kills nitrifying bacteria too! :WHOA:

have you had any experience with it?

reason I ask from all I have read it wont affect the beneficial bacteria as much as much as it would the algae. The only problem is all the extra protein caused by the dying bacteria makes it so the filter cant keep up which case I just have to keep an eye on the ammonia levels.

either case I plan on removing most the cyano bacteria before dosing so what it does kill off hopefully wont cause too much extra waste in he tank and i also plan to remove my piranhas from the tank and making sure it is still cycled before I add fish back to the tank.

thanks for the concern and let me know if you have had any adverse effects with it.

It DOES kill nitrifying bacteria. It's been around a loooooooooooooong time. I used it when I worked at a fish store in the 70's. It would cause a tank to cycle all over again almost everytime!

I wasn't trying to be an ass, I just wanted to hear your experience because everything else I have read has said it would be fine and I wouldn't have to re-cycle the tank.

Anyways I'll make sure I take the added precautions and remove the fish until I know the tank is fully cycled.

thanks for the advice.

Some pharmacies carry erythromycin as OTC.
