Hi,

As a ex-cichlidbreeder I can image the resistance some of you guys have against hybrids. If I am hounest to myself; most of the look stunning for me and I am thinking about this experiment:

My situation:
I have a marbeldmotoro female which gave birth to a pup a week ago (see other treath). I might have the possibility to get a pearlmale which is ready to mate (open claspers).

Assuming this will be a good breedingmale I am doubting to buy this male or a marbeld male for the following reasons:
1. I have no clue how this kind of hybrid might look. Does anyone ever seen pics of this hybird? Please post them! thanks...
2. In my maintank I have 3 P14; 1 of them is pregnant right now. I want to keep the marbeldfemale and her new male for as long as possible in my other tank, but in the future I have to put them in my main tank. Unfortunately I have no possibility to get a 2nd larger tank for them and I don't want P14 hybrids.

Giving you this information: will a combination with 2 marbelds make the chance of hybrids be smaller in my maintank than putting a marbledfemale and pearlmale in this tank?

I assume rays prefer their own species above another species, but I am not sure!

I like to hear your opinions. Thanks, Steven

Hello,
good idea, I often thought about that mix because it could only make pearls more beautifull (just my opinion that many marbled are more beautifull then some pearls).

Don´t know if they really prefer, in my "mixed pond" only the horniest male got all females. Because he was just ALLWAYS after them and the male of their own kind not.

the ray community is more open to hybrids than with the cichlid screw balls...

i say go for it...

If you don't want P14 hybrids, don't mix in animals that aren't P14. It's the only way to protect against it.

Edi: A mature male will go after any cycling female... it doesn't matter which species.

I agree marble/pearl will probabley be a cool ray, but dont hybrid P14 they are such amazing rays that they shouldnt be hybrids IMO.

As said before; I don't want any other male than my P14male to mate with my P14females. But maybe it is interesting to let the p14 male fertilize this marbeld female ;)?

Just a thought; and I don't have to buy a new male ;).
Questions:
- anybody ever seen this kind of hybrids?
- this marbeldfemale is wildcaught. How long do I have to keep her seperate, before it is save to put her with my P14 (= all F1)?
