Ok so a few months ago i boaght a 2.5-3 inch marble goby. he spends most of his time under a rock which after some research i found out was normal. i have not dropped any minnows in and have been feeding cichlid pellets to my other fish. i always throw a few sinking pellets in some hiding spots but i never know if he eats them. hes still around after all this time so im assuming hes eating something but im not sure if hes grown at all since ive had him. also if someone could tell me which sub forum his species belongs under so i can ask later questions there i would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance.

this is probly the best place to post there dosent seam to be a goby category. and as for feed at that size he has to be eating something or he would have only lasted maybe a month . my rtc and sea cow i haven't seen them eat yet but the big chunks of fish are always gone after 10 or 15 minits away from the tank and thay are the only fish that can eat them at that size lol. best of luck to ya

I have tried every frozen food you can think of for my 11 - 12 inch Marbled Goby (in my avatar) he has refused everything, so today I gave in and threw him some live feeders. A few are missing so there ya go.

They usually wont take anything but live... I have heard it is worse than ripping your own teeth out to get them on frozen/pellets. but can be done.. just nearly impossible. Mine hides under his flat stone 99% of the time and only comes out at night, and even then he moves extremely slowly and only really moves to set up a new ambush position..

so, they don't move much and when they do it's sluggishly slow.. just like their growth rate.

Good luck! I love the Marbled Goby and keeping one even for a short time has really sold me on keeping Gobies in general.

Marbled sleeper gobys will eat anything that can fit in there mouths. I currently have 4 different tanks of marbled gobys largest 16 inches smallest a little over 2 inches. First thing is tank setup the fish needs lots of caves wood and rock work to feel secure. If the have these things they will be much more active and feed better. I have never feed my gobys pellets and i never will. My gobys eat live fish, crayfish, crabs, earthworms, blackworms, river shrimp, fresh chopped tilapia, small mice and frozen worms and shrimp also to the smaller ones. If you never see your goby he most likley isnt happy with his tank. Also Marbled sleeper gobys are most active at night and early in the morning and this is when they should be feed. If you have a goby in a tank with cichlids throwing in pellets chances are hes getting scraps and in bad shape, it would be like feeding your cichlids in total darkness in a catfish tank and expecting them to eat. He also wont reach his full size and potential living the way he is. These fish can eat there own body weight in food a day so a few scrap pellets wont cut it. My large male will hand feed but only in the dark he hates the light. The only things they will really come out for in the light are live worms, live crabs or crayfish. Hope this helps

i do have 3 small caves set up for him on one side of the tank with live plants around them for additional cover, but i will set up a few more from him. if he is eating pellet scraps off the bottom should i drop some pellets in at lights out to keep him eating on them??????. im currently feeding new life spectrum fish food. i also have red/trout worms available but if it is safe for him and hes accepting them id like to keep him on pellets. by thewa? can someone give me a rought growth rate for a marble goby?

If your gonna keep feeding pellets you may as well keep doing what your doing. He's prob already well behind in his growth they grow fast when young then slow down alot. He needs to be feed large amounts of live food to catch up a little. If these fish are not cared for proper when they are young they tend to get no bigger than 10-14 inches so good luck. Pellets are the cheap way out and in 20 plus years of MARBLED SLEEPER GOBY keeping i have never seen a marble goby thrive in a home aquarium on pellets. All my gobys are raised from under 2 inches. Largest i every raised was 2 inches to 18 inches in less than 2 years and he was feed heavy doses of live food from the creeks behind my old house. All the larger gobys ive seen were bought already large and not raised up. Most fish farmers who breed these fish even try to use live food because the fish grow better and the meat is better, even though feeding live is more expensive. good luck

well if live food is the only way to go thats what ill do. i was just asking about the pellets. are red worms ok for live food or should i just buy strictly minnows and how often do i feed minnows?

i feed mine all sorts of stuff, when they get hungry, they arnt picky most of the time. Mine likes shrimp pellets and massivore delite. I also feed him chunks of silverside minnows. that seems to be his favorite besides live. My buddy has an 18" goby that has eaten goldfish around 5". He also has it trained to hand feed with dry krill. And i dont know about sluggish. mine is pretty lazy but he moves pretty quickly around the tank. They are kinda like cats, sleep all the time and then decide to cruise for hours searching for meals

Any live worms, crabs, crayfish, insects and fish will do. He will still eat pellets when you feed your other fish so it doesent need live everyday. My large male eats about 6-8 large earthworms 3-5 4 inch goldfish and tilapia chunks everyday. I give him crayfish, crabs and shrimp for a treat. My 2 other males 11 and 12 inches get about 50-75 feeders a day that they share with a clown knife plus a combination of the other foods i named daily.
