So I was at my lfs today and I saw this cool little [what looked to me like] catfish. After asking just about everyone in there what it was, the owner finally walked over and told me it was a Marble Lancer. But after doing multiple searches on this little guy, I've come up with absolutely nothing. So I was hoping some one could give me some basic information on these fish.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! :)

Oh I didn't get it, I wanted to but I'd like to know what I am getting into first.

Can you give us a description to work off of since you don't have any pics? I've never heard of a marble lancer before.

This is similar what it looked like, just had much more white on him. [It was also only about 1/2 in.] Simillar to the designs of a Zebra Pleco. Sorry I do not have much more to go on, I had no idea it was that unheard of :(

Yes, just much smaller, and the patterns are not as defined as those.

I might be of help to you. Years ago I managed a large tropical fish wholesale operation. We would get in marbled lancers that were more commonly referred to as "Harlequin Lancers". Often they came in dead. Finally when they were bagged individually.....success! Still a high mortality rate, but some survived, and I was among the first to have one.

See if this might be it:

Thankyou Richard Kulek! I have been trawling the Net for days for hours at a time and until now have found nothing.
Lfs sold me this fish "Harlequin Lancer" as a "Marble Lensis."
Even now that I have a name though I can find no information on this fish.
I bought this fish as one of my first ever purchases of a fish (4-6 months ago) and stupidly as I'm sure many do when starting out, asked only two questions, can I put it in with African Cichlids? and How Much?
At the moment it SEEMS happy enough in my predominantly Malawi African Cichlid Tank 48"x15"x15" PH: 7.8, Water Temp: 28C, with two Pictus Catfish (Pimlodeus Pictus). It seems to be nocturnal, 98% of the time hiding during the day.
I most need to know PH Range (a lot of cats don't like such a high PH and Temp Range), Water Temp, Water Hardness and their max size that they grow. I really like this fish, he looks great in the tank (when you see him), and being that he has survived so long in the Tank, nothing must be too far out of his range.
Can you be of any more assistance with this fish, and/or point me in the right direction to this information.
Thanks again for putting my frustration to rest in identifying it.

Dean.
