Hey guys. I have some pest snails in my 46g. I've had them for a while and there's not a whole lot of them. But I bought a 125g so I will be transferring the gravel and filters onto the 125g and I want that tank to have 0 snails lol. I know there also in my filters. When I was doing my waterchange last night I took an extra 10 minutes just to get the snails out. Somehow they got into my mesh bags that have my cermaic rings in. I just squished those guys. Would Coppersafe get rid of them? On the package its stated for external parasites and am unsure if pest snails falls into that category. Thank you.

Loaches are a poor method to eliminate pest snails, as well as meds. Do the lettuce and toss method.

Take a piece of lettuce. Weigh it down. Let the snails crawl on the lettuce and toss the lettuce out. Also if you have a snail infestation, try to look at how much you're feeding, because you're probably overfeeding your fish.

You could also try assassin snails, but that takes a while.

That will reduce their numbers but not truly eliminate them.

jeep07, put the substrate in a bucket and bleach it. It will kill all the snails and snail eggs. Do the same for the filter body and maybe the sponges but make sure to inspect some media for eggs/snails and save it so you can cycle the new tank. If you have another tank that is free of snails, just use filter media from that and bleach all the media from the snail tank.

When I bleach my media from the snail tank thats going to kill the bb right?

It will which is why I suggest either inspecting a piece closely for snails and putting it aside so it doesn't get bleached. Or even better get some from a snail free tank.

And also make sure you rinse everything well with plain tap water before you reintroduce fish so to rid the tank of the bleach.
