I have two Os in a 10 gallon hospital tank with a type of fin rot. I added Mardel Maracyn to it and now it's cloudy, really cloudy. This is the medication right? It woried me so I did a 50% water change the next day before adding another pack.

Sometimes meds kill BB in smaller tanks I have noticed. do a couple water changes, add salt and crank up the heat. The O's will bounce back. When you have done a couple changes squeeze an established sponge into the tank and it will be fine by morning....

How high should I crank it up?

84-87 impo for about a week should do it. Change 10% (1 gallon) every day and they will be just fine...Good luck.

Why crank up the heat?

For fin rot, I start with aquarium salt and Melafix, then move to antibiotics if that doesn't work.

It has nothing with the parasite "not liking" high temps--the temp speeds up the metabolism of ich & it drops off the fish faster, then being able to remove it from the water column with water changes. I believe you are supposed to lower the temps for bacterial problems.

That is just false. You are supposed to raise the temp. Fin and tailrot bacterium thrive at lower temps.:screwy:..... http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93720&highlight=fin+rot
