hi guys im new to the forums and this is my first post, i have been keeping marine fish for 4 years , im not sure how experienced that makes me in the hobby but im looking to start on elasmobranchs, i have only the 55g salt tank that i have been messing with since i started, im heading off to school in a year or 2 so i am unable to upgrade tank sizes, so im asking if a ray or a small cat shark is feasable in my situation or if my tank is too small and i should forget it until i can upgrade. as far as shark sizes i hear 180 is the minimum in gallons but i hear freshwater rays are good in 55 and was wondering if the same thing might apply in small species of marine rays. :nilly:

I would wait.
One a 55g is to small.
Second, a ray is a expensive fish. Im not talking about just the cost, but feeding and anyone willing to spend that amount of time and money, would want to do it long term.
Rays can live for a long time, so its not a short term fish. So, I would wait until you upgrade and have a great tank for some.

A 55G is to small for even the small ray species, need to just wait till you can upgrade. Its ok for a very short term holding tank for pups but thats about it, not something you would want to keep a ray in for the long term.
