Hello everyone, I'm wondering if anyone knows what schools have the best programs. I'm thinking about going to college for marine biology after I get out of the Army. Can anyone tell me more about this field? What are some of the different jobs in this field? What kind of sub disciplines are there? Thanks ahead of time!

I dont know by personal experience but since no one else does Ill bite lol..Ive always heard check out schools by the coast, i.e. Florida. Im assuming u could get ur basics in then xfer. Good luck, my 6 yo son wants to be one, but not one that goes in the ocean cause hes scared of sharks lol. Even though hes obsessed with sharks, has tons of books, lives for shark week & will talk ur ear off about them...maybe thats why he knows too much! He doesnt know it, but hes getting his room redone next month for his bday in an ocean room, painting waves, stickers, bedding, thinking bout a nano tank.

Why not a shark tank? :P

What part of the country do you want to live in?

I know that Humbolt and Santa Cruz in CA are good schools...

That is so awesome! Your' son sounds awesome dude. I love watching kids get REALLY into something that they love. I bet he's going to glow like a light bulb when he sees his new room.

I'm stationed in Fort Bragg NC but when I'm out I plan on relocating to the state of my choice. It all depends on the school I choose.

Here is a read on the subject: http://swfsc.noaa.gov/textblock.aspx?id=54
Be aware that the job outlook for people with degrees in marine biology is bleak.

I imagine there aren't a whole lot of jobs, but to me it doesn't matter. I'll find one for sure. It's what I want to do and nothing is going to keep me from what I want lol. Eventually I want to open up a fish store, but I want to do that a bit later on.

If you live near CT one of the UConn campuses has a pretty good program.

Is that a state school?
