Alright I apologize if this seems redundant but I've read both opinions weather marine salt is to be used or aquarium salt. I have a figure 8 puffer tank and I heard that they're mildly brackish in which I should just use aquarium salt. But some refudable people on here said to use marine salt. I was wondering if someone could explain to me the best choice and the reasons why. And which ever it is how much should I use for a 29 gallon.

Marine salt, it has trace elements and buffers, which will recreate the habitat from where they are from.

What kind of ratio should I use?

I do 1/6 cup per gallon which ends up being between 1.008 and 1.010 depending on how careful I am.

Raise your tank up to 1.005 for the F8's, don't raise it by any more than .002 a week or you're beneficial bacteria may not be able to cope with the transition if it's done too fast and you'll have some die off.

Also invest in a good hydrometer or refractometer so you can measure the salinity correctly.

Rock salt is halite, which is NaCl with some othertraces of stuff

Table salt is NaCl plus IO3+ (well I think it's iodate) and something so that it doesn't clump

Solar salt for water softeners is the same as aquarium salt. Those are the only two that I would use.

Marine salt is totally different.

SO no matter what mairne salt for setting the salinity gravity ?? :) Thanks in advance :)

If you want a brackish tank, use marine salt. I prefer Oceanic.
