Hey guys,

I have an African Cichlid tank with crushed coral as a substrate to raise the PH.

I would like to try out black marine sand, but will I be able to cut out the crushed coral (which is white)?

Does marine sand raise PH?

If not, I guess I will have to do a black marine sand - crushed coral substrate...

Does anyone have any pictures for what it would look like?

Thank you everyone!

I'm not sure what black marine sand is made of but I suspect it's just black silica sand, possibly obsidian from volcanoes. If so it wouldn't raise pH . I use Tahitian moon sand in my freshwater tanks and it has no effect on pH.

black sand wont change your ph. I keep sand in my 180 mixed mbuna, then have pantyhose filled with crushed coral in the sump.
