Recently did a massive tank cleaning. I have 2 Marineland Bio-Wheel Power Filter Emperor 400 filters. I cleaned both out, washed out the impeller, etc etc. (DID NOT TOUCH THE BIO-WHEEL)

Now, my newest one, almost 2 weeks old, runs fine, but my older one, only 4 months old runs very loud, like there is sand or gravel stuck in the impeller area, even though there is not. I have cleaned that area about 5 times, nothing happens.

I let it sit for a day, then turn it on, still runs loud, let it run for a day, check on it, still runs loud. Sounds like a grinder/blender.

I know i put everything back right, and i know it is clean. Any idea how to stop this? Or will i just have to buy a new filter?

Thanks guys..

Marinelands are terrible for that. I have one that is so noisy it is shut off most of the time, no matter how much I clean it. That is why I am switching all mine to ac. Next stop with them is poor water pumping amd flow.

I want some Sumps or canisters, but not enough money right now. Figure 2 of those would be ok for a 72g, but not is one isnt working right..

If it is still pumping water. It is working right. I have one that is the loudest one and pumps water the best.

is th impeller on the littl metal rod the rightway and pushed in to the intake tube securely mine makes that sound when i dont push it in all the way

Metal Rod? I know i kept all the pieces together, maybe its possibly it rolled off the table or something. Lemme check around for a while.. ill see if i cant find it and fix it.

I found this little rod laying on the floor under the table i cleaned my filter on. Is it possible this fell outta the impeller or filter itself?

Well, i fiddled around with the impeller for a minute and tried it again and now its running fine. Thanks for the help and suggestions guys..
