hello all.hope i put this question in the right forum.been in the hobby since 65 and would you beleive i have just bought my first ever canister...a marineland c-220.

i have it on a 29g tank with less than a dozen fish.i pretty much knew how to set it up and prepare it for the media.however i find no mention of taking the canister away from the aquarium to clean it(at least its not in the brochure)

i realize it wont need to be cleaned for quite a few months.but for those of you who have this particular mL model what is the tried and true procedure for disconnection the hoses from the canister itself and hopefully without getting water all over?

does one just disconnect the valve block or do you disconnect the motor head with the valve block intact.those of you who have done this i would love to hear from you and let me know any tricks to the procedure and whether or not you lose much water while disconnecting.thanks to all.allwet.....

Just disconnect the valves from the canister and carry the canister out. The ball valve inside the quick disconnect will keep the water from siphoning your tank. There is no need to remove the hose from the valve. Have some towels around just in case you make a mess. Here is a thread of my first canister maintainance experience.
