hey everyone, i have a quick question. my 125 gal came with 2 36" light fixtures, but they only had 18" flourescents inside of them..(thanks aqueon.)
anyway, i was only concidering the single brights due to budget, and heres what i was thinking.
for 130$ i could get a single 48-60" fixture, which over a standard 125 gal, i dont think would light properly..
or, i could get 3 18-24" fixtures, and place them in each section of the tanks' braces. (you know, the places the glass canopies go)
do you think this would provide better overall coverage,as compared to a single 48" fixture? i dont have any live plants so the spektrum im not worried about. ( i think plants go with the spektrum unit of light..or kelvins..i forget .. :irked:)
just looking for a nice LED lighting arrangement!
thoughts?
thanks everyone:grinno:

I have four 48" Marineland Reef LEDs on cichlid tank.
LED lighting is more directional (focused), so a single 4' lamp covers an area of about 54" x 12" .
Yes, their metal stand may expand out further, but the lighting sure doesn't.
You can play with the lamp's height above water by suspending with wire-- raising it will help to flood light out more, but too much elevation, and you'll notice a loss of depth penetration

So you spent over $1000 on lighting?

I have 2 36" Marineland Double Bright LEDs on my 210g. I personally think it looks amazing and works for my setup! But I went with a more "natural" look and feel for my tank.

yeah- unfortunately LED lighting is fairly new, especially to the aquarium hobby. I liked that LEDs are more compact than fluorescents & create less heat than most lighting, and its purchased through the office...
