In the process of converting my 55gal into a FWLR and eventually a reef. Any opinions on the marineland magnum 350 Pro. I've had good results in the past with marineland but i don't know if this is good enough or ideal. I've always used HOB filters. Been thinking this with two powerheads and about 60 pounds of live rock.

What do you think..what could work better for a similar price.

The Marineland 350 is a good filter. My only complaint is the media basket tends to come apart after a while and its hard to get it back together. The plastic "net" on mine gets off its rail and I can't get it back on properly. The filter still works and hold media, it is just a nuisance.

In my opinion, I would get the deluxe model, the one without the bio-wheel. I set the bio-wheel up and I feel like it is a complete waste of time. Water never seems to flow quite right for me. I don't think you need the bio-wheel if you have good ceramic rings in the canister.

i like my 350 for the price and i love the bio wheels they are one of the best medias imo some people think they have a problem if bio wheels are not rapidly spinning but they dont have to as long as they turn and the water is hitting them they are doing their job

Dont get a 350, I have one on a FW tank but your Live Rock is your bio filter, and as long as you dont over stock you just need a HOB Protien skimmer set up, and maybe a HOB Fuge...CPR makes good stuff check them out.
