So I stumbled across a disturbing little tidbit: Marineland Stealth heaters were under a silent recall. This was a while back, but I never heard/saw anything about it. I've been running a Stealth in my tank for about a year. Does anyone know if I should be worried or was it just one bad batch that made it past QC? From what I've googled, this looks like it went down a couple months ago (August/September?).

Thanks for any info

This was spread around here a long time ago and there are numerous threads on the subject. Petsmart did a recall on them and you could get store credit for them, although I doubt they're still doing that. I'd get a new heater just to be safe.

Damn, more junk to buy. Guess I'm lucky I haven't blown a hole in my tank or fried my fish. Thanks.

an excuse to buy one of those inline haydors....

A silent recall! The Stealth recall eventually became everyday talk at one point. I would turn the heater in even if you are not having problems. I can not remember a heater causing so many problems. It actually blew tanks apart.

I returned some to PetSmart recently. They gave me some grief about it since their email went out in Feb. but they gave me store credit. Someone else reported being denied at another PetSmart so YMMV.

I took mine to my LFS and they gave me a brand new heater (different brand)..no adjusting for cost differences.

The local Petsmart's here still have a printed recall notice by the fish filters and will accept any of the recalled heaters. Here's the recall notice, you may be able to print it out and take it in to make it easier.

Dear Valued PetSmart Pet Parent,

Marineland has issued a voluntary withdrawal of the Stealth PRO Submersible Heater (100, 200 and 250 watt). The product is being withdrawn due to a quality issue.

If you have this product, please stop using it immediately and take the following steps:

1. Unplug the heater from the wall to stop the flow of electricity
2. Let the heater cool for 15 minutes
3. Remove the heater from the tank

Please bring the product to your closest PetSmart for a full refund or exchange. Replace the product with a comparable heater as soon as possible to maintain the temperature of your aquarium. A PetSmart store associate can help you select the right heater for your aquatic environment.

If you have questions about this withdrawal, please call Marineland Customer Service at 800-526-0650 or 800-432-6986.

At PetSmart, we are concerned pet parents, too. We will continue to do everything we can to help you and your pet during this time.

Sincerely,

Debbie Gonzalez
Vice President, Brand and Customer Marketing"

Haven't noticed them in LA, I'll look into it. Thanks for the heads up. Ordered the 300W Hydor last night, should be nice.

Yeah, wasn't doing a lot of forum creeping until recently, I missed out on all the fun I guess.
