Hey guys, I just bought 2 250 watt Marineland Stealth Pro-Heaters for my 150 gallon and I set them at 84 degrees in the tank but they are only heating my tank up to 80 degress? any ideas why it's doing this? I dont want to turn it up more and end up boiling my fish..

Thanks.

84F is wayyy plenty for fish...why even that high. 78-82 is perfectly fine for most tropical fish.

well it's stuck at 80.. i wanted it at 82 ish but i set it at that and it wouldnt go any higher, so i put it at 84 and the temp is still 80..

i like keeping my tanks on the warmer side :]

Is the tank open topped?

Verify your thermometer is accurate first. Use an instant read thermometer or get a glass thermometer to check the accuracy.

Where are the heaters located in your tank? They need good water circulation around them.

Wild discus altum/scalare maybe? Those are the only fish I ever kept that warm consistantly.

OP: yea I would check your temp with a digital or glass thermometer, and make sure you have decent circulation around the heater. If everything seems to be spot on then check your heaters are functioning properly.

I put a couple of glass thermometers in the tank(4), they give me differents reading sometimes. When I increase the water circulation the temp become the same in the whole tank.

i'm using a digital thermometer, the heaters are placed near the return for the pumps so it's getting circulation. i sorta unplugged and plugged the heaters back in in hope of resetting it and now it seems to be working properly. thanks for the advice!
