Does anyone know if the live fish that sells at the fish market , are good to keep as pets ? Such as that blueish white tilapia or any other fish that sells live in the fish market for food ? Thanks

It depends on if you like them enough to provide for them. There are some potential gems in some of these markets such as barramundi and toadfish but they are usually kept in poor conditions because they are not intended to be bought as pets. They may be in rough shape and even sickly as a result so you would have to decide if it is worth the trouble of trying to nurse them back to good health.

Hey thanks for the input..You are right I saw some beautiful Blue colored freshwater fish I did not know what they were

not to derail, but which markets do you guys go to where they have live market fish?

Mostly in Chinatown type areas where there are produce and fish markets.

Yes I live in NY , and if you go to Chinatown or flushing you see them there ..lots of fish I've never seen before ..beautiful fish..but the tanks are usually very overcrowded and they look beat up

I go to chinatown in Seattle and most of the fish I see in the market are on death's bed. I don't think they do water changes much in those stock tanks and diseases are left untreated since the fish are about to be killed and most meds are toxic to people. If you see a very strong, healthy specimen that you are willing to quarantine, deworm and rehab, go for it. But good luck finding a healthy one.

I once spotted a barramundi that I was tempted to rescue. It was too small to even be a meal in the first place but it looked to be in the best shape of the bunch.

Really ? wow I would have tried you probally would have paid between 10 -15 for it ..Do you know people are selling platinum barramundi for 4000.00 !
