I know several people feed their rays market shrimp. I myself do, but they dont seem to like it much. I always have left over pieces.. One of my females wont even think about chewing on it.
My question is this, I guess Ive never asked, nor seem to have read anywere that I can remember... Do you guys feed raw or cooked shrimp.
Ive always just used raw... Does anyone think cooked works or is any better.. I would think raw is better for them but would like views or opinions...

thanks

My rays have always gone crazy for MS. Its the only thing my 12 inch male will come and snatch out of my hand! Raw is a must! Maybe you are feeding to much or they are not the right size for the right size.

Raw is the way to go

Cooking it removes a lot of the nutritional value I am sure

But you should be making DIY ray food it is so much easier and cheaper and my ray loves it. It is also a very clean food and you can put whatever you want in it including vitamins garlic etc...

Even if its just shrimp, nothing else, they wont eat it. Only one of my males will eat it. Rest of my rays dont or might only eat a piece or two. One female will not touch it at all. If I put in worms, silverside and shrimp, everything is gone but the shrimp. No matter the size I cut it down to, they wont do it..
Its frozen market shrimp. I thaw real fast under cold water before putting in tank, but its weird.. they just wont do it.
I know raw is better... just didnt know if everone else out there was doing the same thing, raw.... or if they were cooking..

ya, I know raw is better due to cooking them will not have as much nutritional value as raw does. Thats why I have always done raw..
I have been doing DIY food for a few weeks, almost a month now, ever since the post were on here a few weeks or so ago. Got a good recipe.... I dont feed it to them everyday though. 4 time a week. The rest of the time I do worms, this and that.. Even if I throw worms, silversides and shrimp in together, they will eat every worm, silverside thats in there, but not one piece of the shrimp. I even cut them up to a smaller size and nope.. wont do it.

Just stop feeding everything else and only feed shrimp until all the rays in the tank will eat it. Eventually, all your rays will know thats the only thing they're going to get and just start vacumming peices up before they hit the bottom.

Maybe you're just putting more than what they can consume....

hey, ive been following ur threads.....or lurking as its refered to uve been very helpfull to others so i figured maybe i could help alittle? My rays were always really picky they would only eat beef heart that the lfs was giving them for some reason? they wouldnt even try MS for the longest time so wat i did was soaked shrimp in with the beef heart once and added both to the tank.....the next day i just used shrimp and they went nuts over it and ever since they have eaten watever goes in the tank....kinda like reverse physchology.....on animals with stingers, might work for ya but sometimes there just debbie downers and wont fall for it

i had my male starved for 2 day before he eats sinking hikari pellets but time to time i would feed him few peices of MS.. on the other hand my female used to eat earth worms but i converted her into eating MS. it takes few days of starving.. everything takes 3-4 days starving.. GL thou.
