Market Shrimp question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I buy the peeled with tail removed, and I just put the shrimp in a small container with tank water in it for it to thaw. I use a pair of scissors to cut the shrimp into smaller pieces when it is time to feed.

I do it that way because I'm lazy, but the most recommended way to prep frozen food is to put it in the fridge overnight. Apparently, thawing it in water takes away nutrients.

i get my with shell and tail. peel off after thawing and slide some aro sticks (hikari) into the prawn.

My Dats will only eat cooked shrimp. Most market shrimp (cooked and uncooked) have been frozen and treated with salt. I get the medium size shrimp, cut into pieces and soak overnight in water in the frig to diffuse out the salt. The following day, I press the shrimp between paper toweling to remove excess water and squirt in some Kent Zoe. I let the Zoe soak in for about an hour and then feed. My Dats will also eat frozen krill which is already supplemented with vitamins. The krill is good to have on hand in the freezer as a backup.

1. buy fresh market prawns then bring them home
2. wash them once
3. put them into a strainer then leave them until the dripping stops
4. place the shrimps inside a plastic bag
5. place the bag inside the freezer making sure it lies at the freezer floor and leave it there for 2-3 hours
6. bring the bag of shrimps out of the freezer then hit it gently against a hard surface like the floor. this will free them from being stuck to each other
7. immediately, place the frozen shrimps into another container then put it back into the freezer

at the time of feeding, just bring out of the freezer just enough for your needs, thaw them, cut off the tail and the spine, cut them into bitesize pieces then feed them to your fave fish

okay thanks guys. just wanted to make sure I was doing it right cuz my dats suck in the shrimp bites and spit them out, then chase after them and repeat. then finally they eat it. i dont get why they do that.

Sounds like either the pieces are to big, or your fish are still getting use to it. Did they just start getting shrimp recently?
