I have read in the past that people feed market shrimp to there fish. I bought some raw shrimp today....the only thing added is sodium. Is this what the rest of you use....I don't know if you can even get it without the sodium??? Does this sound okay....and if you do feed your fish market shrimp how long have you been doing it and would you recommend it? What about disease possibilities?

simply put cheap easy and effective market shrimp should be a main part of every large fishes diet

ABSOLUTELY! Shrimp packs on the weight super fast and is a good source of protein when mixed in with a varied diet. I live on the coast and when we go fishing, we catch live shrimp for bait. When I had large dovii, trimacs and jags, Id bring home leftover live shrimp and throw them in the tank. They loved it.

its fine but i wonder why they add sodium. maybe its just leftover on them from harvesting.

it is most likely a preservative thing, i never checked 2 be honest you will have no problems

They (the shrimp) naturally contain sodium in their bodies...

USDA regulations need to have it posted on the package...

I seriously doubt they are adding any sodium to the shrimp....

from 145-250mg is the amount they are saying is found in 4oz of raw shrimp.

I feed prawns to my stingrays and arowana. They are in the same tank as the big jag and the oscars and they have a taste for prawns now too. Its a great source of food for a large cichlid to have in there diet. Its also ( relatively ) cheap.
