Argentea. Purchased originally from Jeff Rapps at 1". I have only once seen one this size for sale once and it was on Jeff's site, maybe last year for $100

Thanks

Gorgeous fish, I think the price will rely heavily on where you are located and what the availability of them are in your area.

Why are you wanting to sell it

Unfortunately, I have to exit the hobby and sell my fish and equipment. I'm outside of Boston, MA. Have never seen them for sale in the Boston/Cape Cod area in my travels

And thank you. It is difficult to have to part with this fish. Quality fish for sure

Sorry to hear that friend. Hopefully you can get a reasonable price for it. Finnage looks great, I wouldn't think $100 would be unreasonable.

Putting a price tag on large cichlids is always tough in my opinion. At least in my area, there simply aren't a lot of people who have tank space available for large CA cichlids, so price will be driven by finding the right buyer.

As an example, a few years ago I was looking to clear out some tank space and literally had trouble giving away a proven breeding pair of fenestratus, never mind get anyone to pay me for them.

Here in the UK I have found one month you can get £100 next month you would have to donate it to your local lfs, depends on how long your willing to hold on to it for the right buyer.

It looks like it may be a female to me, so if there is someone, with a male near you, you may actually get a buyer, for what you are asking.
But I agree with Jonclark, unless there are people in your area with monster cichlid tanks, that species may be hard to give away, because of its needs, and volatility.
I picked up a similar sized female in Chicago a few years back for $25, because I had a male, that had already killed off 3 females. My males rep for killing females, made spending more, a gamble I wasn't going to spend much on.
I believe the seller had, had it in the classifieds for many months for $50 before I came along, and offered the $25. (he included 3 Synodintus it was housed with for free)

I had a similar sized (8-9") M. argentea that I sold for $150. At that time Rapps was selling smaller ones for $100 and that was obviously not including shipping. You just have to find the right buyer that actually appreciates what you have. M. argentea are not a commonly seen fish, especially as mature adults as they are slow growers.

I don't think $100 is unreasonable at all. Below is a picture of the male that I sold. I know duanes knows his stuff but I'd have to respectfully disagree and say yours too is a male. The barring it's showing is a bit femalish but that could be due to other factors as well. The density of freckling is what leads me to believe it is a male.

Good luck finding your guy a new home.
