One of my marmalade cats is on his side after today's water change. I swapped out 50 percent, all fish went into the same holding tank, nobody got knocked around and he's the only one acting like this. Any one have any advice or causes?

could be stress/exhaustion, or something wrong with the water you changed. temp, toxins in water supply, anything really.

Try adding some aquarium salt, increasing aeration, and turning off the lights. all three would help with stress.

You said you put the fish into a holding tank to do a 50% water change? Why? I'm not saying you're wrong to do that, I've just never heard it done.

It's easier to vacuum the tank with them out. I just take the water that's coming out and put it in a 10 gallon with the fish. they get filtered ro water and the temp brought up before they go back in. That's what's weird is I've been doing this system almost a year without any problems until today. I'm using a canister filter and air pump so aeration isn't a problem. Ill give the light a try but something just isn't adding up here. how much salt would you recommend, tanks about 60 gallons.

No need to remove the fish while cleaning out the tank. That stresses the fish too much. You may have injured the fish while moving it.

I use this system due to when I first set the tank up, they have ceramic pots as hides and one slipped and fell, hurt the fish, that's why I move them now

Are you buffering the RO water before you put it in the tank? Are you mixing it with tap water, or using pure RO? It is possible you had a pH crash/jump if using unbuffered RO, changing 50% at once.

for 60 gallons i'd throw in 5 or 6 tablespoons of salt. Maybe use more in your case with the RO since it has no minerals already in it.

Things shifting and falling is what happens when you don't secure/silicone items together for decor. I don't do it either, but it's a risk I'm running with my tanks. Are you doing weekly water changes? Assuming you are, that means you're netting and transferring all your fish twice every week (once to take out, again to bring them back). That has to be insanely stressful on the fish, nevermind the increased probability of injuring them on accident or messing with the slime coat.
