Hi.
I went to my LFS today thinking of buying a 2nd Marulius to go with my other.

The Marulius I own is a golden ish color, I was told this is indian??

Anyhow the Marulius in store today were a little more expensive and had a silvery-blueish tint to them.

What is the difference here? They are most definatly Marulius.

What size do these blueish ones max out at? bigger or smaller than my indian spec?

Cheers for any help, sorry I couldn't get any photos.

Even with pics its hard to say because marulius is quite a varied complex of local varients.... theres one thing for sure though, its going to be a big one, id say expect 2 foot+.
Cheers,
Squirl

Yah, I hope it will match my Indian Marulius for size.
Looking around the net, this looks similar to the Marulius I was looking at:

A lot more blue than my Marulius. Mine was very golden in color as a juvi this size.

That is really nice! Well as far as size goes, it might get bigger than your marulius or it may stay a little smaller but it wouldnt be a massive difference in size either way. I found that both marulia and marulioides are quite social with conspecifics compared to some species so there shouldnt be many problems.
Would be interesting to see how they both turn out when they are mature.

Well, I picked one up today.
Will post some pictures later once he has settled in.

Here is the thing though:

He is around the same size as my othe marulius when he was a juvi.
But my other was very golden, and had a strong orange line down the body.

This new one has a sliver/blue tint, no orange line down the body, and doesn't seem to have the slight bump on the head like my other and the one pictured in my last post.

It does have a black and orange eye spot on the cadual fin though.

A friend is telling me he thinks it might not be a Marulius but may be a Maruloides.
But I always thought only Marulius had the ORANGE in the eyespot on the tail??

Here is a pic I managed to snap earlier: (only been 1 day in tank, need to fatten up but so far he is not eating)

Compare that pic to this one of my other Marulius when he was the same size: (note the bump on head, and orange line)

It's not too clear in the photos, but my new one has a much "bluer" tint to it.

If you count the pored scales down the lateral line if there are less than 60 then it should be marulius and if there are more than 60 it should be marulioides.....i tried to count on the pic but its hard to make out properly. Also if that fails, try to check the dentition of it, if it has caniniform teeth it will be marulius and if it has villiform teeth its marulioides.
Cheers,

Cheers bud.
I will have a go at counting the scales just for confirmation, but i'm pretty certain it is a Marulius.

it is.. I'm 99 percent sure..
