I know there are stickies but I can seem to find a 100% straight forward answer.

Are any snakeheads aloud to be kept as pets in Maryland?

Sorry for ignorance. Thanks in advance.

Im not 100% on laws over there as i'm in the Uk, but im pretty sure if there was anywhere in the Us Channa would deffinately not be allowed, it would be Maryland. Its just unfortunate for you that it happened to be the original release site for Channa argus, and the whole "Channa invasion" over there....But on the other hand, you could always go fish one out of a lake? There aint many people keeping argus in the world so u already have one over most people haha.
If you look into the local laws there may be a way around it, such as applying for licensing to keep Channa, but that is something i realy dont know about.
Cheers,
Squirl

No species of Channa (snakehead) can be owned, sold, or kept as a pet in the State or Maryland or the region (Washington D.C., and Virginia).

Ok. I saw laws were basicly all Channa. So channa pretty much equals all snakehead? Didnt know that. Was thinking there were other types.

If you look on the MD state DNR site there is a list of illegal species to own sell trade etc. There are 2 dwarf snakehead species that are legal still.....the problem that you will find is that pretty much all shops will never carry them. Mainly because most DNR officers do not know the difference in species. I have had this conversation with many owners of the lfs in the baltimore area. Goodluck with your search....its nearly impossible to find them

Damn, so two types of dwarfs are legal. What are they called?
