Massive Clown Loach

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did you ask for the backstory behind this loach? The only reason Im not guessing is the condition it seems to be in from my POV ive seen healthier clearer eyes on big loaches.

I find our CL each grow at different pace from each other. A few can get big faster, whereas others stay smaller for longer. Dunno why that is, cuz they all eat the same food. A fast growing tank-raised 10 inch CL can be 10-15 yo. A slow grower would be even older. In photo, she's a big beauty whose fins seem somewhat frayed (from fish net or fighting?). Lovely.

I have no clue how I missed this. Based on how slow redshark1's loaches grew I would guess 20-22 years.
Definitely had a lot of blood, sweat, tears (and therefore a high final price) go into its upbringing.

This fish looks a little rough like it has been kept in suboptimal conditions. It's not a wild fish but has been raised in captivity.

The price is what somebody is prepared to pay so will vary a great deal.

£300 for a wild Clown Loach ? That's the black market for you. Somebody has had to do something risky to export it out of Indonesia where trade in larger fish is illegal to protect the breeding stocks in the rivers.

The age cannot be determined by looking at a photo.

Clown Loaches do grow at different rates and reach different sizes. My biggest reached 11.5 inches after 25 years and then stopped growing. In a group they do all eat the same food but NOT the same amount of food due to the hierarchy. That's why there's a difference.

Where in NNJ is this fish? A store? Has an owner given it up?
