I’ve kinda been on an eel kick since I had an opportunity recently on a fire eel I was gonna put in my 125g for now, but the owner wanted it to go into a bigger tank than its current 125g home 🤷🏻‍♂️

My 10’x3’x2.5’ is currently home to a group of moba gibberosa’s. I was doing my routine weekly check on a supplier that regularly gets new arrivals, and to my surprise found this Tanganyika eel on the available list.

Being from the same lake, does that equate to compatibility in housing them together? Clearly it does as far as water param’s are concerned, but I am meaning temperament & behavior. The mobas are 4-5”, and can be skittish, and the eel is advertised at 8”.

My eventual goal is to breed the mobas, and they can be temperamental to get spawning regularly. So, once the moba reach breeding age/size would the eel disrupt breeding behavior?

Thanks folks 🤗🤙🏼🇦🇺

Don’t know if anyone’s going to have a clear answer…just educated guesses and the obvious answers like keeping the moba species-only if you’re goal is to breed.

However, that thing is cool enough that I’d just go for it and plan to move it to another setup if needed. Also, it’ll be a long time until your mobas are big enough to breed

I’ve never seen one of those but kept mastacembellus ellipsifer in my old tang setup and they were very peaceful. Had no issues but I traded them off because I was traveling a lot and they were a pain to feed…so picky.

Thanks for the input P phreeflow Appreciated mate 🤙🏼
How commonly available are the ellipsifer? I do like their pattern more than the white line 🤔

Honestly don’t know. They were plentiful when I got them about 4 years ago if memory serves but I had never seen them before and haven’t looked for them afterwards. Stuff like that seems to come and go so I got into the habit of snapping them up when I get a chance. Hope you find some…they were very colorful and not timid at all and were out and about
