I was just wondering...

I know that some people take on the title of "master breeder" or some such thing. What do you need to do in order to show proof of the number of species that you have succesfully spawned? Do you keep a fish log? What information must be provided in the log? Do you need a witness?

I have been keeping an excel log for the past couple of weeks. I have the following fields: date, time, specimine, activity, description, temp, ph, comments

Any suggestions for added fields? I don't want to get too involved in water chemistry entries because it's not realistic to test every time I make an entry. I've been making as many as 4 entries every day or two.

Since I started the log (5/18/06), I have spawned N. brichardi, Aulonocara sp., and two pairs of domestic discus. I have two pairs of Apistos that appear to be close.

umm i dont think its any special field but maybe like if you spawnd rare or hard to breed fish..

I'm member of some other norwegian forums and some of them have a breeding contest. It's different difficulty and some species are very hard to breed ("elite" breeding). To proof a breed on them you shall have a good description of the breeding including those fields that you mention. You'll also need a photo of the male and female in your tank, and photos of the fry.
Good luck:thumbsup:

Hiya Carpediem, welcome to MFK!
You are already doing better at documentation than I ever did, lol.
Photos at various stages, types of foods and feeding schedules, and any meds you use, why, and when (such as methylene blue with eggs at ?drops/gallon as fungal preventative would be useful. If you used any breeding trigger it would also be useful, as an example desert pupfish require a slow rise in temp, hardnes, and pH, followed by a sudden, sharp drop in all 3 to trigger breeding. Most fish would go into shock and die at that kind of treatment, it just makes them horny:D

Alright then, that's cool... I'm going to continue to keep the log until I find a better method to record my process or I get sick of making entries, whichever comes first.

Anyone in here breed anything difficult or worth mention? All the fish I've had success with are certainly not in the *difficult* category.
