Matala Filter Media in fx5 trays

Was thinking about using the gray or blue density matala mat for my fx5 trays? For 30 bucks it could fill up all three trays.

I'd go ceramic media, especially for a canister filter. Those mats have fairly poor surface area compared to other media: http://www.wernersponds.com/biofiltermedia.htm

I tried using both the black & blue Matala media, cut to fit, in my Eheim 2260 filter. I notice the Matala became very limp and started shedding fibers after 1 year. I ended up removing the pads and using some Poret foam (10 PPI) instead. I am considering slicing the foam thickness though as it is difficult to clean well.
