over there boi
I am wondering if anybody has had any success adding a female RD in with a male RD. Right now my male is housed by himself in a 75g. He has been in a tank alone now for quite some time because he is quite aggro. Would a female help calm the savage beast or would he just kill her. Maybe I could try a divider or is just a waste of time.:screwy:

I don't think it would work to add a female to your tank. In order to breed RDs long term, you will need a 6-foot long setup. Your footprint is too small and even in longer tanks the male often kills the female. If you were to divide your 75g you'd just decrease the amount of swimming room your fish has, making him more pissed off. If he's been really aggro already, a female won't tame him-- he's claimed that whole tank as his own and any intruder will be slaughtered.

it could easily be done, if i was you i would buy a divider and a female and put the divider in and the female on one side for a week to let her settle in. and also see how the male reacts to this and the female aswell. if they are ok remove the divider after a week or so. if ure un sure then put a slot in the divider which the female can fit through but the male cant and see how things work.. if the male just wants to attack her straight away then that pair is not going to work.

if the male does not like this female strait away u could try another, how big is ure male? ure going to want a female that is nearly as big and if the male is matured then the female needs to be when u buy her aswell.

im sure some people on here are going to say that you will need a bigger tank 90G+ is ideal but i suspect it will be ok in there as long as u have decent filtration and keep up on maintenance.

Good Luck i hope this helps.

the larger tank isnt for water quality, its because the male is very territorial. he will easily claim 75 all to himself and not want any intruders even a female. 90? prolly not. im hoping my 90 will be large enough for a breeding pair that grew up together, and thats even pushing it. if you want him to breed with a female get a 125+ and let her get established first.

a divider in a 4' tank is not good with fish this big. Not enough room for either of them.

a 75 and a 90 are basically the same , same footprint

Well he is about 9" now.The slot in the divider does sound like it might work. Also is a 90g tank not th same footprint as the 75g only deeper. I do have a empty 55g I could put my male back into. Then put the female in the 75g let her get adjusted and then put the male back in a couple of weeks. Could this be an option and still use the divider.
