Has anyone seen what they perceive as mating/pairing behavior in their fire eels?
This past week I put some new driftwood in my tank that has some algae and java fern on it ( for the pleco to clean for me, I'm lazy like that ) And since the fire eels have investigated it and made peace with it's appearance. My largest one has made it "her" home. my 2 smaller ones show signs similar to cichlid behavior I've seen w/ threat displays and nipping. the slightly larger of the 2 lil' "guys" will sneak up on the other and flare out his tail abit and shove/fan similar to cichlids. best I can describe it, almost identical except I don't notice the flaring of gills or opening of mouths.. Then will go "snuggle" up with the big one, who more or less ignores the aggressions. Everyone is by my guess about 1 1/2- 2yrs old now and still growing fast. I don't think they are old enough to actually bred yet, but has anyone else seen them forming pair bonds in this age?
