i have never had a pond before and am going to make an inground pond about 5x8. i was wondering what materials im going to need to make this work. i live in the northeast so any cool plant suggestions would help too.
thanks

Pond liner of suitable size and plenty of mulch, rock, gravel, boulders, etc.

Plus plenty of muscle, or a rented backhoe;)

In the northeast the pond need to be at least 24" to over winterfish. Provided there is a hole left open in the ice. Def. go w/ the 40-45 mil. liner. Make sure you buy a fish safe one that is UV resistant. I would do more planning and research on the pond size and volume before you get into plants. So many varieties that it will make your head spin. Don't just rush into digging a hole. A little extra planning will payoff w/fewer headaaches in the end...

to make a pond easy a shovel and a pon liner.if however youwould like to keep fish have nice decor like rocks round edges and stuffdo some more research and check out some ponds don on this side to get an idea

i was thinking about 30 inches deep. could koi over winter or would i need a heater?? im in CT so it gets pretty cold

Koi are hardy to USDA Zone 4 at a depth of 24", with winter areation. Basically Zone 4 is Minnesota. 30" will be OK w/some sort of hole kept in the ice.
