I've been seeing a lot of the same questions asked lately about what paint/wood/glass/etc to use, some of them are even mine. I was thinkiing we could create a list of commonly used materials and if it gets good maybe sticky it for reference.
For instance if you need paint get Krylon Fusion. if I wasn't at work I'd get an image and attach it just to make it obvious.
So lets keep it going. What are some good epoxy brands? What type of plywood is good for tanks? blah blah blah you've heard em all.

I too would be interested in a good general guide to proven materials. It may be a difficult thing though, since MFK has members from all corners of the globe and everyone has their own opinion on what is best. If this list doesn't happen I guess I will just make my shopping list off whatever thread I'm on and if there is a question ask for help.

If you have a thread that is truly high quality, there will be no end to the questions that show up in your PM box. As soon as the thread is pinned in the Sticky section, the questions will be cut in half. (Everyone passes them over to go to the active discussions.)

Nearly every thread that is started in hopes of being a Sticky by virtue of everyone else's input dies a miserable death or gradually sinks to the bottom. You have a great idea, but you need to give it a better kick start if you want it to survive. There just isn't enough room in the sticky sections for everyones good ideas. If you want to make a contribution to MFK, research the forums and collect the information in a Word document. When you are satisfied that you have all of the useful information that you can find, then organize it so that people can extract what they need. Then when you have something truly great, post that as your thread (new thread and heading). Even if it isn't made a sticky, it will be in your threads so you can easily retrieve it when someone needs the info.

However, don't go through all that trouble if all you want is a sticky thread. There is no telling if your work will be good enough, or wanted as a sticky. Also, there are a few Sticky's that are over due for replacement. When something better comes along, the old one will be removed (it has happened before).

Yep, first and foremost is correct information and this isn't a good start.

Krylon Fusion paint is for most plastics, PVC and resin materials as it chemically bonds to the material. It's not great for glass as it peels off.

Hap-Hazard threads asking to stockpile information from all members may never be a sticky because it will be to hard to read.

There is always room for good information and frequently used projects and skills and the stickies do get updated when new or better information becomes available.

Now, if we could just get members to read the stickies and search past threads for info .

That's the problem though I need the info myself.....

I've heard it recommended for tank glass for exactly this reason though. I used it on my tank so that a year from now if I want to change it I can without too much work.

Then that useage has to be stated.

Whatcha need to know that's you can't find in the past posts? We're here to help.

Well, for starters what's a good epoxy to waterproof with? I have a hard time with hardware store employees when I describe how I plan to use it. Without a brand name or knowing the use it was actually made for they're clueless.

You are looking in the wrong place. Look up Carter Fiberglass/Composites out in Apopka. I haven't dealt with them since the mid-90's so I can't say if they are still there. If they are, they will have everything you need.
