I am currently treating my tank for Ich using the Heat and salt method. Tank is 150G + approx 20G in sump and filter wet volume. I ignored the add 20G and added 6.25 cups of pure salt, which should be 300 teaspoons or 2 teaspoons/Gal. I have a hydrometer that is graduated in PPT and specific gravity. I am reading I am reading 6PPT or a specific gravity of 1.004.

OK by my computations .2% should be 2PPT, of course this is very low on the scale. Is my 6PPT an error in measurement? or do I really have 3x the amount of salt that I intended?

I gradually added the salt and raised temp over 24 hours, Fish are not distressed, if anything they seem to be full of piss and vinegar due to temp. They are eating well and actually continually begging for food.

Inhabitants are all around the three inch mark and include one Oscar, two Cuban cichlids and two Brazilian thread fin earth eaters.

Edit
Sorry I should add that parameters all in line 0-Ammonia 0-Nitrite 10PPM-Nitrate PH-7.0 measured with Aquarium pharmaceuticals test kits
temp is 85F

Thanks in advance for any help, am I on the right track here?

I don't see anything wrong with your routine. A 0.2% solution can destroy ich and hopefully the ich you're dealing with is not salt-resistant.
