Mating behavior and aggression diffrnece?

So I introduced two nics together and they have been lip locking and tail slapping ever since. IS this aggression or mating behavior. What's the diffrence?

Depends on if it's a pair doing it or two males/females. If same sex, then it's behaviour to establish dominance. If pair, then could be establishing dominance and/or mating behaviour.

Well im not 100% on thier genders but the assumed female was in the tank first. I introduced the assumed male(slightly larger) into the tank and they almost imeditly started going at it. The "female" even drove the "male" into the sand. Im worried about the smaller "female" though.
