Mating behavior?

I have 2 pseudotropheus acei in my 55, and one is definitely more brightly colored than the other, and he gets next to the other one and flares all his fins and vibrates in the water. Is the other fish possibly a female? I don't know African mating behaviors yet, but I sure hope they're thinking about breeding if the other one is a female. :nilly:
 
Also, the two johanni sometimes swim in a circle opposite each other. One of them is the alpha in the tank. Are these just displays of dominance?
 
sounds like the acei are a pair....but time will tell... and sounds like the johanni are rivals... any pics..?
 
Could be courting or dominance dance.

it is typical for the females to have less vibrant colors than the males. this could be part of it
