Would a mature male ray (that has lived as the only ray in my tank for a few years now) cause problems if I introduced a much younger (6 months old or so) female ray?

How long does it take for a female Retric ray to mature?

I'm worried about the male harassing her to death because she is too young to breed.

The male is 10 inches disk size and is 4 years old.

There is only one way to find out. If the male is not going to breed then he will leave her alone.

not sure how agressive mature retics can be. but using a general rule of thumb, I would separate them until the female is much bigger. Or use a divider to separate them. It is usually best to have the female larger than the male. This is becuase when trying to mate, a larger male can actually kill a female or stress her out really bad by biting. if you leave them together, there is a good chance the male will try to breed with her. I am guessing that may not have a good outcome. You can try to have them together, but I would separate once you see any kind of agression if there is any.

retics are not agressive like motoro.... add her and see i dont think there will be any problem...

keep a very close eye on them if you do, i wouldent but thats just me.

have a pre made divider ready to fit quickly, saves messing about if it all goes tits up!

I agree with everyone just add them and see how everything goes
