Ive been wondering at what size/age (some SnakeHeads may not reach a certain size due to inadequate sized tanks and water parameters) would any SH be sexually mature.

Maybe those who have bred their SH's can share
1) Size of SH's when they bred
2) Possible age/ how long they've been with you
3) Whats their diet, water parameters, tanksize.

This is just to feed my curiousity:drool: and anyone out there who's intending to breed SHs.

Cheers,

Ill start the ball rolling..

Have 6 channa bleheris in a 3 by 1.5 ft planted tank
Temp of 78.8 degree Fahrenheit
Feeds on a diet of Market Prawns, Brine shrimp, Mysis shrimp, Tetra bits and Hikari Sinking Canivore Pellets.
Size ranges from 4 inch - 5 inch

Hasnt shown any signs of pairing up or breeding due to the tropical temp here, but i think a chiller would do the trick.

Hi,you should lower your temperture. somehow, what are your water values?Regarding your tank,it may be a bit small for 6 bleheris, for your feeding its ok.My bleheris are the same size as yours, its about 6 months that I have them, they should be about 1 year old and have spawned twice.

yea, well the only way to lower the temp here is to get a aquarium chiller running. My water parameters are PH 6.8 and GKH 2 i think. You mean its too small say due to territorial fights? I dont get that often, will post a pic up and maybe you can help me from there? :)

Anyone who's bred SHs before, do share.. any species as long as its a SH

Cheers.

Hi,your partial water values are ok,but your tank is small to host 6 bleheris. My tank is smaller than yours, and when they are breeding ,the third member must be removed, otherwise will be constantly chased or killed.

Okay. Ill do that. How do you tell which is the pair of SH that are going to breed? Whats their behaviour and temperament like?

Hi,since you have already put them in the same tank it we be useless to take them out at this point, wait until one or more pairs form. You can recognize a pair by their behavoir, tail slapping, jaw locking ,and the stay together constantly.
