Ok I have went with a cichlid tank - I have a 75 gallon standard 4 foot long tank currently with 12 cichlids - 3 eletric yellow labidochromis, 3 Jewels, and 6 Kenyi's - filtration is good - well established tank double the rated filtration - 1 EMP 400 and a Tetra whisper 70 - Parameters are great at all 0's - last occupant was a bowfin who ate like no other so plenty of BB - I have two clay pots a large resin tree stump, a Large piece of at least 2 foot driftwood fake and real plants for decor and cover -

Is this an ok stock for this size tank? - I do have another established and running tank if I went overboard with the stock but I know most of these will not get over 5-6 inches each since i dont have experience with cichlids I wanted to check and make sure if i can get more - or if I have to transport some into my other tank or keep them as is since i know they get territorial - i know i will have to watch aggression regardless but would like to hear some input - they are all currently small at around 2-3 inches - 1 is just over an inch

here is 2 pics of the tank setup - might move around or add some more plants on the driftwood and bottom of the tank

As far as stocking goes, you are completely fine on that, I have a 55g and have 12 4-5" cichlids in there and they are doing great. Slightly overstocking with these fish usually isn't a bad thing as long as it is with moderation anyways. There should be plenty enough room in there for the ones you have.

I agree you could put a few more in there. Over stocking mbuna is fine as long as you have the filtration. There will be less aggression too.

I know overstocking on rift cichlids is the rule of thumb, but might that be a problem with his jewels? The handful of jewels I've had in the past have been serious bruisers when a female starts brightening up.

I've kept jewels with Africans.. Have two in my tank right now.. Honestly, the jewels get pretty submissive in my experience. Doesn't seem like the Malawis bother them and they don't bother the Malawi, but the jewels stay near the rocks most of the time.

I guess I would not be concerned about the jewels beating up the Malawis in the least.
