Current build im working on is a 72x30 footprint rimless. Thinking of ordering 3/4" glass for the long sides instead of scrapping my other tank for its 5/8" panels.

I was gonna go with 23.5" height, which im sure would work fine for 72" length, but can go all the way up to 33" technically since i still have to cut the sides.

So basically, 72"Lx???"H for my side panels if im using 3/4" glass?

24" is basically the recommended limit for rimless and 3/4" glass. 33" would certainly require euro-bracing or bracing of some sort. Safety factors are 8.3 and 3.4, respectively, which is just over recommended for rimless (8.0) and under recommended for braced (3.8).

Very good info thanks. I didnt realize rimless recommended safety factor was that much higher. I noticed red sea is using 3/4" on their new 3xl tanks which are 78"x25.6". Thoughts?

Backfromthedead Backfromthedead I bought a used 220 several years ago I think it was an Oceanic.
It was 3/4 inch glass 72Lx30Hx24 and was made without a center brace.
It did have the old school fake wood plastic frame top and bottom which I removed because it was cracked and useless.
The tank was a leaker so I rebuilt it, and did add strips of glass to each end and the center, but just so I could add lids.
This tank was originally designed to be completely open.
3/4 inch glass was commonly used for tanks 30” deep with no center or euro bracing.

Yes such is the case with my first 150, the one in line for the scrapping. It seems to have been built with no bracing, 15mm glass at 28.5" height. I added a crossbrace to it when i got it just to be safe.

Im pretty well set on 23.5" height. Seems adequate for me and i can repurpose the scrap glass into a nano tank with that. If i go with scrapping the 150 it'll be 21.5" height at 15mm because i have to cut out the holes i drilled into it. Not to mention I'll be out the 150 :nilly:

And on top of everything, we have to remember that ol Backfromthedead Backfromthedead is not a professional, as M M1A1 pointed out. Someday maybe though!

Thanks for your input.
