Hi everyone,
im waiting on my 300g to come in and based on the stand i went with i had to go with 8” square overflows in the corners. The tank is sitting against a wall in my office with 9-11” on either side Between walls. The overflows are clear on the sides. I will be keeping 2 datnoids, an arowana, and quite a few bichir. The one think i notice with my tank now and overflow is how much detritus gets into the overflows and not to the filer socks in my sump. So i have a few thoughts…
doing a deep sand bed or gravel in the overflows for nitrification and maybe some plants and have a light that just goes over the overflow. I would vacuum this biweekly.
doing an upflow algae scrubber 8” wide by 24” tall.
Iwill have an auto water change system plumbed in so this isn’t about doing less maintenance or water changes just trying to maximize space in the large overflows with some filtration ideas. Open to any other thoughts.
