Hey guys,
I'm currently designing a hood for my 110. Initially I was trying to make it as light as possible. I even considered making my own composite panels out of plywood & polystyrene, but I realised that minimizing weight may not be as crucial as I first thought (since glass is very resistant to compression).

My current design is very basic - essentially it's a box frame made out of 19mm x 42mm pine, with a 3mm plywood skin.

So I guess my question is: How heavy is too heavy for a hood? My tank has a 72" x 18" footprint and is 20" high.

My hood for my 110 long (same tank) is made out of 3/4" (18mm) plywood and weighs around 40 pounds. I built it extra heavy duty, because for years I had a TV (big, heavy, old-fashioned kind) sitting on top of one side of the hood.

I guess the short answer would be that if it isn't too heavy to lift it won't be a problem.
