I want to start cycleing my 120G tank but was wonder if it matter weather it has a heater or not? I have the filters and sand but couldnt afford to buy the heaters and decor yet but thought I could start cycling it in the mean time will it matter that its cold?
Thanks

Ya meaning room temp! just wondering if it cycles differnt when its room temp and no heaters or all the same.

I was thinking about this same question before I logged into MFK this morning. Have a couple of 10's a 20 and a 40 that I will be setting up next week (soon as my fish room is ready) and will be doing fishless cycles on.
Thinking that not running heaters or lights is gonna save a bit on the electricity bill - around 400W on and off 24x7 for the heaters and around 100W for the lights for at least 2 weeks.
Room temp is a constant 72F so shouldn't be a problem I think.

Ill be adding my heaters in 6 weeks hopefully it will be cycled and I can start adding my fish to it a little at a time!

I always cycle my tanks "less heat". No need to spend the extra money to warm the water up a couple of degrees. I do get the heaters in and operating a few days before adding fish though. This way you can get the thermostat established and get the heater "seasoned".

Good luck! Sounds like you're taking the right approach!
