Hi I'm Britnee and I have a 75gallon up and running it is cycled parameters are 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 5-10 nitrate. I recently got this fish from a friend who had it in a 40 gallon and didn't want to mantain it anymore. I'm pretty sure it's a red devil but am not positive. May I please get your help with what type of fish it is and if it's male or female? Thank you in advance!

midas/red devil aka midevil. from the looks of its little pointy wiener, id guess male. but its always hard to sex these fish.

Red devil or midevil

How would I know if it is a Red Devil or Midevil? And thank you for your replies. He/she is very attitudy for sure lol it's still not eating but I've only had it for 2 days. Is that something I should be concerned about at this point. Does it's color look ok?

color looks fine. thats what they look like. i would just assume its midevil. not too many places you can get amphilophus labiatus without knowing thats exactly what you're getting. he'll eat when he's hungry enough. don't worry.

Ok lol thank you. Now I've read quite a bit online about how these guys are really aggressive and live up to their name so he is by himself right now lol other than some giant danios and I'm thinking that's the best way to keep him? Also what should I feed him? I have freeze dried krill, frozen brine shrimp, freeze dried bloodworms. Is that ok or should I get some other stuff?

you should work some kind of pellet into his diet too. as for tank mates, that depends on him and tank size. they can be pretty aggressive. i would expect tank mates to get killed.
they're awesome fish. I've had mine for 3 years and he's the best.

I'm hoping to keep him in the 75 gallon long-term and there is a school of 8 giant danios. Do you think they'll be ok? What type of pellets would you recommend? Decorations wise any suggestions? Sorry for all of the questions I just want to make sure he's well taken care of lol

i would pass on the danios. if he doesn't eventually kill all of them, my money is that he will kill some of them. he'll be 7-8" before you know it.
a 75 is a good fit.
out of pellets you can get at more fish stores, id get omega one or new life spectrum. they're both good stuff. decorate the tank how ever you want. when mine was smaller he had a ton of plants and a couple caves. now, he's 12", he just has has a cave, a piece of driftwood and a few plants that he drags around the tank.

Ehh, is right pellets are best bet, keeps them a little more docile IMO......good idea to give it it's own tank, most will not get along well with anything besides other Amphiliphids. I generally do 2 days a week where I give them minced romaine, red/green-leaf lettuce, smushed peas/lima beans, a high-protein pellet food (at LEAST 35% crude protein) for a good 50% of their total diet, Krill/Shrimp twice a week and an occasional treat like frozen foods. They also enjoy snails, LIVE shrimp, crickets and earthworms as well as meal or wax or butterworms. In the wild, their specialized facial/head design allows them to root through the substrate in search of arthropods, crustaceans, and mollusks, but from what I gather, their favorite prey in the wild is snails. Avoid feeder-fish at all costs for ANY fish you own. If you want to include fish in their diet, best go with frozen-thawed fillets cut into bite-size pieces. Squid will also likely have benefits as well, as long as it is cut into small pieces.

As far as veggies are concerned, I found it's much more likely they will accept them if they observe other fish in their tanks eating them 1st, as I have a FH kept by himself that is not fond of veggies, but my Red Devil is housed in a community growout and has slowly started eating more and more plant matter after seeing how some of the others favor it. it's a similar concept to saying "Look what I got, you can't have any" and even if it is something they don't LIKE, now they want it because... well they are Amphilophus and they do what they want.
