Seems like things are going well I have switched from 11 our lights to six hours and algae has seemed to stop spreading as fast in fact hardly any is growing at all and some even may be dying off. Hard to tell because the vast majority is still there and crash seems to like eating it occasionally. I’d like to get more plants in here. Anyways share your thoughts if you want and thanks for watching!

Wow he’s looking good!!!

have you thought about scrapping the algae off the back glass? Looks like slime algae? Tough to get rid of it

how big is he now?

I always enjoy hearing about your mayan again so this is quite nice.

Question, do you know what you’re doing that is causing the algae on the back of the tank? I’m trying to grow algae in my 29 and the only algae I’ve been able to grow on my own is hair algae and brown algae. I have a good bit of algae that is similar to what you have but it came from outside.

wow long time since I posted this. I actually ended up moving and had to give Crash up to the lfs near me it really bummed me out that I had to get rid of him and I didnt really "hit it off" with the store owners it was just like "thanks for the fish" no questions didnt seem to be interested in anything I had to say just hoping he made it to a good home. anyways its nice to come back and remember this. also in case you were still wondering I had some decent led lights causing all that algae it seems your lights arent powerful enough to grow the algae you want. also I cleaned my tank regularly of the algae just always left the back untouched as I liked the algae as a background. fishhead0103666 fishhead0103666

Had mine for over 4 months now. Felt yours looks better, with very distinct outlines and colours. Nice looking fish but under appreciated due to its abundance in lakes, rivers and waterways

thanks for the conpliment although I think the only reason yours is more pale because of your substrate and other surrounding. just a guess because mine had less color and looked pale at first when I had him in a smaller tank with sand that was light colored. when I moved him to the bigger tank it had black coral sand and he literally changed color right away started seeing red in his tail and much more pronounced color all over. it seems they are real good at blending in with whatever colors are around and if they in a lighter color environment they lose almost all their color and in darker environment they bring it all out.

Hey, great info. Thx. You're right. They definitely seem to be the chameleon of the freshwater world. They really blend into their surroundings. Looking back, this seems evident from the different looks it displays in my pictures above.
