Caught this in a canal. Look like mayan to me. Anyone can help to confirm ID? Caught a few within 3 hrs but I only brought back this specimen.

Thank you for the ID.

Our drainage system and reservoirs are infested with introduced species. I saw red devil, peacock bass, red tail cat, mayan, red terror, syn, ray and many more. I am actually planning to catch red devil and red terror. Too bad, yesterday all my catches are Mayan and Tilapia. Hope my next fishing trip will be more fruitful.

Think u could let me know some spots to catch cichlids in south Fla. Been wanting to try forever

From what I heard theres lots of cichlids to be caught in the canals especially near Miami. Midas, Peacock Bass, Mayan, Oscars, etc.

Ahh, we try to keep the secrets from non locals lol, I live in central florida now, heres the key, go as far south as possible, then continue to travel. Also, the summer is when you want to go. google maps helps a lot, find areas with lots of canals and ponds. Start at the canal across from FIU (Florida International University, Southwest 8th Street, Miami, FL). I start here then travel the different lakes and canals, after that its just luck. Another good spot for pbass which is less south is the canal around the bass pro at dolphin mall. Lastly, everyone swears by blue lagoon near the miami airport, ive tried it myself with no luck, too big of a lake for a shore fisherman in my opinion. If I told you any more I'd have to kill you and will probably be killed myself lol.
