Picked this guy up at my local LFS, I've wanted a Mayan or festae for a while so idc which one it turns out to be lol. From what I've seen (I'm a noob in cichlids), this guy may be festae? Since his tail spot doesn't extend from the top to the bottom?

baby festae. my opinions based on the observation of the tailspot. the upper level on the end of the tail says it all. a mayan cichlid has a tail spot that looks like this ( 0 ). festae has a tailspot like this ( o )

and don't worry about being a noob you will learn fast aslong as you pay attention. I was pretty noobed out myself.

Thanks for confirming boys! I figured it was true festae but wanted to be sure, since like I said I'm a noob to em haha. It was listed just as Red Terror, no scientific name or anything. I know I've seen Mayans listed as RT around here before now that I know a couple tips to help ID.

Him and my stalsbergi have actually become friends, wasn't expecting that lol. Those are the only cichlids in that tank, how awesome would a true GT x true RT look if they paired and produced haha. Unlikely I know
