Got about 100-200 fry from this pair only 2 weeks ago, and now they are getting at it again.

The female got a bit battered in the part between, when she wasn't yet ready.

I'm really starting to like this pair so much that i would call them my favorite fish atm.

mayans look beautiful in breeding dress. If they look like that all of the time, I would keep them as well. Thier behavior and range in their natural habitat makes them one of the most interesting CA cichlids in my opinion. I've seen them in saltwater swimming next to puffers in mexico :nilly:

Yeah, and thankfully these only the female is out of dress a week or so after ive removed theire fry, but other than that they pretty much look like this all the time :)

Yup. In addition to jworth's sighting, Dr. Paul Loiselle spotted them a mile offshore defending fry on a reef against damselfish.

Thats amazing. Just goes to show how fascinating these guys are. Not many other, if any, cichlids can pull that off.

That's just incredible! These guys never stop to amaze and thrill me, even in an aquarium envoriment!
